PPG and APL will expand their current 50-50 joint venture, Mumbai-based Asian PPG Industries, to serve India’s industrial liquid, marine, consumer packaging and transportation coatings customers.
CB&I wins technology deal for Petronas Malaysia petrochemical units
CB&I was awarded a contract by Petronas for licensing and engineering design work on five petrochemicals units in Johor, Malaysia. Lummus Technology said it will provide technology for a steam cracker complex comprising ethylene, butadiene, benzene, isobutylene and MTBE units.
India's GAIL to import 2 million tpy of LNG from US
The deal could be worth $12 billion, the newspaper said. Senior GAIL executives and Indian oil ministry officials were in the US last week to put the finishing touches on the agreement, according to the report.
BP licenses PTA production technology to India firm JBF Petrochemicals
With the help of BP's technology, JBF intends to build a 1.25 million tpy unit at the Special Economic Zone in Mangalore, India, to produce PTA, the primary feedstock for polyesters used in textiles and packaging. JBF expects the Mangalore plant to come on stream at the end of 2014.
Praxair starts up Anhui air separation unit in China
Praxair China has started up a large air separation plant in Wuwei, Anhui province, to supply oxygen, nitrogen, and clean air to the Anhui Wuwei coal-based chemicals project. The single-train air separation unit, with a capacity of 3,000 tpd, will also generate liquid oxygen, nitrogen and argon.
Petronet LNG aims to raise $367mn this fiscal year for India expansions
The money will be used to raise capacity at a Petronet liquefied natural gas import terminal in Dahej - which is already India's largest such facility - in Gujarat state, a senior company executive said. Petronet is among several companies that are rushing to build LNG terminals in India.
Methanex starts up second plant in New Zealand
The addition of the second plant adds 650,000 tpy of capacity for Methanex and increases the Motunui site capacity to 1.5 million tpy. “Our team in New Zealand did a first class job in starting this plant on schedule and at a very reasonable cost," said CEO Bruce Aitken.
Technip wins engineering deal for Reliance cracker project in India
The ROGC plant will be among the largest ethylene crackers in the world and will be integrated to RIL’s Jamnagar refinery complex, using refinery off-gas as feedstock. The products from that plant will be utilized as feedstock for the new downstream petrochemical plants.
China poised to increase gas imports, production as demand rises - analysts
China’s natural gas consumption was 131.7 billion cubic meters (bcm) in 2011, already a steep rise from the 2000 figure of 24.5bcm. However, consumption levels are predicted to soar even higher to reach 375bcm by 2020, thanks to the country’s desire to increase the share of natural gas in its energy mix.
Reliance picks CB&I for paraxylene technology on India aromatics project
The complex includes proprietary BP paraxylene technology offered for license exclusively by Lummus Technology, which uses a novel crystallization step and other features to provide for low capital and operating costs. Paraxylene is an intermediate in the manufacture of polyester.
