Electrification of Process Heating: A Solution for Displacing Fossil Fuels in Cracking and Refinery Heaters
22 July 2025

Sponsored by: Lummus Technology

Electrification of heating is a proven solution in other industries, enabling substantial emission reduction and improved operational flexibility. Electrification of process heating in the oil and gas industry has been slower in adoption, due to challenges such as high temperature requirements, complex heat control and cost sensitivity.

Join Lummus Technology for a webcast that will explore electric process heating options, its features and benefits, and real-world use. The discussion will highlight Lummus’ SRT-eTM electric cracking heater and how it can address these challenges by combining indirect electrical (radiative) heating from other industrial applications with existing SRT technology. The session will also discuss the growing adoption of dynamic electricity pricing, where fluctuations reflect real-time energy availability and grid demand.

This webcast will cover:

  • Advances in partial electrification, including converting a hydrocarbon-fired refinery heater into a hybrid heater using both fuel and electricity
  • Adding flexibility for heaters to switch from fuel-fired to electricity, to take advantage of dynamic electricity pricing
  • An update on Lummus’ SRT-e electric ethylene cracking heater, including the commissioning of a commercial demonstration unit
