Sinopec to buy stake in Sibur Russia rubber plant
Sinopec signed an agreement to acquire 25% plus one additional share in the rubber plant, the company said in a statement, without specifying the value of the deal. The two firms are in talks to set up a joint venture to produce nitrile as well as polyisoprene rubber in Shanghai.
Jacobs wins consulting deal for PPL sulfuric acid expansion in India
Under the terms of the contract, Jacobs is overseeing the work of engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contractors as they expand PPL’s sulfuric acid plant to enable an estimated capacity of over 2,000 tpd. The expansion project also includes a retrofit of the heat recovery system.
Petronas to exit vinyl business in Malaysia, Vietnam
Petronas Chemicals has three plants - two in Malaysia and one in Vietnam - which mainly manufactures vinyl chloride monomer and polyvinyl chloride with installed nameplate capacity of 680,000 tpy. The company said it will discontinue its vinyl business and cease operations by January 1, 2013.
JX Nippon mulls shutting down Muroran refinery
The company has already cut its daily output by 400,000 bbl from 2008 and has now decided to cut output by an additional 200,000 bbl by the end of March 2014. By shutting down the Muroran plant, the company will cut 13% of its group refinery capacity which is equivalent to a daily output of 180,000 bbl.
Dresser-Rand targets small-scale LNG technology
Dresser-Rand believes Expansion’s patented process is the first technology to provide a cost-effective, small-scale LNG production method with capacities as low as 1,500 gpd—far smaller than any other LNG production system commercially available today, according to the company.

Dow Chemical to shut 20 plants, cut 2,400 jobs
Dow's CEO Andrew Liveris says the cutbacks demonstrate a resolve to tightly manage operations, particularly in Europe, while mitigating the impact of a "slow-growth environment". With the moves, Dow expects to save $500 million in annual operating costs by the end of 2014.
