EPA waives clean gasoline standards in Louisiana
Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal requested the waiver, which the EPA said is effective for 10 days. It allows the sale of conventional gasoline with a higher vapor pressure than usually allowed under the agency's air-pollution rules, easing supply pressures created by Hurricane Isaac.
US finalizes new fuel efficiency standards for autos
The final rule sets an average fuel economy requirement of 54.5 miles per gallon by 2025 for each auto maker’s fleet, the same level the administration initially proposed in November 2011. Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney opposes the standards set by the Obama administration.
BP recalls contaminated fuel from Indiana refinery
BP issued a recall for the unleaded regular gasoline shipped from Whiting between Aug. 13 and 17, saying it could cause hard starting, stalling and other drivability issues. The fuel would have been sold to motorists at various gas stations, not just BP-branded outlets, according to the company.
US oil, gasoline demand slips to near four-year low
Total petroleum demand for the year to date was down 2.3%, according to the API. Gasoline demand fell more, down 2.2% from June and down 3.8% from July a year ago to hit the lowest July level since 1997. Despite weakening demand, refinery production remained strong.
Canada newspaper owner proposes $13bn refinery
David Black, owner of the British Columbia community newspaper chain Black Press, said the refinery built near Kitimat would process crude oil from Enbridge’s Northern Gateway pipeline into refined products, including gasoline, diesel and aviation fuel. The refinery would process 550,000 bpd of oil.

Dynamic Fuels LLC, Syntroleum Corp.'s joint venture with Tyson Foods, has been granted Part 79 registration for its renewable gasoline blendstock 10 by the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).
Calumet to buy gasoline, middle distillates producer Montana Refining
The deal should close in the 2012 fourth quarter. Montana Refining owns and operates a 9,800 bpd refinery in Great Falls, Montana. The refinery has a complexity rating of 9.3, with crude oil feedstocks sourced primarily from Canada. It produces gasoline, middle distillates and asphalt.
EIA raises 2012 price forecasts for crude oil, fuels
The Energy Information Administration projected the price of West Texas Intermediate crude, the US benchmark, will average $93.90/bbl in 2012, up from $92.83/bbl predicted in July. Retail gasoline prices were forecast to average $3.53/gal this year, up from $3.49/gal in the July estimate.
