Classification guidelines for LNG carriers and FPUs
Classification societies Bureau Veritas (BV) and Russian Maritime Register of Shipping (RS) have signed a three-year cooperation agreement covering the development of joint guidelines for LNG carriers and offshore floating production units (FPUs).
New technology for removal of carbon dioxide from natural gas
The Japanese companies JGC Corp. and I NPEX Corp. jointly with BASF SE have successfully completed tests of a new technology for the removal of carbon dioxide (CO2) from natural gas under high pressure.
BP proceeding with PTA debottlenecking in Guangdong
BP confirmed that it is proceeding with its project for a major increase in purified terephthalic acid (PTA) production capacity at the BP Zhuhai Chemical Co. Ltd. site in Guangdong Province, China. BP is also planning to build a new world-scale PTA plant at the same site.
Celanese expands EVA capacity
Celanese Corp. says that due to strong growth in strategic, high-value segments, the company will expand capacity at its Edmonton, Canada, manufacturing facility (specifically for ethylene vinyl acetate (EVA) polymers).
Brenntag opens chemical distribution facility in Indonesia
Brenntag recently unveiled its new distribution facility in Jakarta, Indonesia, built to meet growing market demand. The facility will provide a bigger storage capacity than the current warehouse in Jakarta, and allow Brenntag to improve and expand value-added customer support throughout the supply chain, from purchase and formulation through to packaging and logistics.
Successful startup of Hainan Island methanol plant (China)
China Blue Chemical Co. Ltd. and Davy Process Technology have announced the successful startup, performance test and plant acceptance of a 2,500 mtpd methanol plant in Hainan Island, China. The plant which produces chemical grade methanol will supply both the domestic Chinese market and be available for export.

Honeywell has formed a new business focused on providing advanced open software and services to the process industries. By integrating the open connectivity and broad platform capability of its Matrikon acquisition with its applications and solutions business, Honeywell’s new business can deliver a breadth of solutions.

Laboratory analysis systems company Metrohm has joined together with Applikon, a producer of process analyzers.
ECS implementation makes a difference at Beaumont plant
Invensys Operations Management has successfully implemented an InFusion enterprise control system (ECS) for ExxonMobil Lubricants and Specialties. Through a joint Invensys and ExxonMobil team effort, the installation was successfully completed and the plant was back to full production on schedule with no safety incidents.
New licensing agreement makes a wastewater splash
GE has completed a new expanded licensing agreement that will allow the company to continue offering high-efficiency reverse osmosis (HERO) systems to help more of its industrial customers increase their water usage efficiency and reuse capacity as the international community works to address mounting shortages of clean water.
