GTC inks process technology deal with RATE for gas processing, sulfur recovery

GTC Technology announced a global agreement with Rameshni & Associates Technology and Engineering (RATE) for gas processing and sulfur recovery solutions. GTC expects this agreement to expand its offering to greater than 2,500 tons/day of sulfur and 4,000 MMSCFD (4,000,000 NM3/H).

BioAmber, Mitsui plot Canada biosuccinic acid plant

BioAmber and Mitsui & Co. have officially partnered in Canada to build and operate their previously-announced biosuccinic acid manufacturing facility in Sarnia, Ontario. BioAmber will be the majority shareholder in the plants.

Wood Group to supply parts for Dow US gas turbine

Dow Chemical has awarded Wood Group GTS with a contract worth up to $3.5 million to provide Advanced Parts Manufacture (APM) hot gas path components for their ABB GT11D5 gas turbine located at Dow’s Plaquemine chemical plant in Louisiana. Wood will also provide specialist support from an experienced engineering team to ensure in-service reliability and the availability of critical spare parts.

Air Liquide starts up California air separation unit

Air Liquide has started up a new, energy-efficient air separation unit (ASU) at its facility in Rancho Cucamonga, California. The new ASU produces liquid oxygen and nitrogen for a range of industries, including healthcare, food and beverage, steel, glass, electronics, oil and gas, and chemicals.

Kinder Morgan to invest in $400mn oil terminal at Houston Ship Channel

Kinder Morgan Energy Partners said on Tuesday that it will join with Battleground Oil Specialty Terminal Co. (BOSTCO) - a venture with TransMontaigne Partners - in building, owning and operating a new $400 million oil terminal on the Houston Ship Channel. Construction of the tanks is expected to begin this year upon completion of binding definitive customer agreements.

Dow, Mitsui finalize Brazil biopolymers joint venture

Dow Chemical and Japan-based Mitsui & Co. have secured all necessary governmental regulatory approvals to complete the formation of their previously-announced 50-50 joint venture for biopolymers in Brazil. This represents the world’s largest biopolymers play and Dow’s largest investment in Brazil, a country in which Dow has operated successfully for more than 50 years.

Advanced Refining expands Nevada GDiesel plant

Advanced Refining Concepts (ARC) has commenced construction on the third and fourth expansion phases of its Peru Heights GDiesel refinery in Nevada. The expansion, which is expected to be completed in the second quarter of 2012, will double the plant’s capacity to 400,000 gal/day of GDiesel.

Nalco wins top safety award at Louisiana chem site

Sustainability services firm Nalco said that its plant in Garyville, La. was honored by the Louisiana Chemical Association (LCA) with a 2011 SAFE (Serious About Fostering Excellence) Award for facility's environmental and safety performance and community outreach efforts.

Yara opens diesel exhaust fluid terminal in Houston

Fertilizer producer Yara has opened its new diesel exhaust fluid (DEF) storage terminal in Houston with the arrival of its first shipment of Air1 DEF from the company’s plant in Sluskil, Netherlands. At capacity, the fully operational storage facility will hold 1 million gallons of Air1 DEF.

Fluor acquires sulfur technology business in Texas from Air Products

Fluor said on Monday that it has acquired Goar, Allison & Associates, a unit of Air Products. The Tyler, Texas-based company provides sulfur technologies for upstream gas plants, downstream refineries and gasification.
