Tyco buys specialty firm Chemguard for $130mn
Tyco International completed its $130 million acquisition of Chemguard, a leading provider of fire suppression products and specialty chemicals. Founded in 1984 and based in Mansfield, Texas, Chemguard's fire suppression portfolio includes an extensive line of foam concentrates, firefighting hardware and engineered foam systems for a broad range of industrial applications.
Halliburton files Gulf oil spill lawsuit against BP
Halliburton on Thursday filed claims against BP in Texas state court for negligent misrepresentation, business disparagement and defamation related to the Deepwater Horizon incident on April 20, 2010.
US Gulf producers shut in nearly half of oil capacity amid Tropical Storm Lee
Oil and gas operators around the Gulf of Mexico have begun evacuating platforms and rigs due to Tropical Storm Lee, with nearly 48% of oil capacity and 33% of natural gas production shut in. Lee intensified to become a tropical storm on Friday, according to the US National Hurricane Center (NHC), packing winds of 40 miles/hour.
Crescent Point buys North Dakota shale acreage
Crescent Point Energy has acquired approximately 750 boe/d of production and more than 78 net sections of lower-risk land in North Dakota through a pair of acquisitions. As a result of the deals, Crescent Point said it was upwardly revising its 2011 capital expenditure plans and production guidance.
Magellan Midstream to reverse Texas pipeline, take crude to Houston refineries
Magellan Midstream is proceeding with the reversal and conversion of a portion of the partnership's 18-inch Houston-to-El Paso pipeline to crude oil service. The reversed pipeline system is expected to have an initial capacity of 135,000 bpd to refiners in Houston and Texas City, supported by long-term committed volumes for a portion of this capacity.
Univar acquires Brazil chemical distributor Arinos
Brazil-based distributor Univar has acquired Arinos Quimica, a leading distributor of specialty and commodity chemicals in Brazil. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
US Gulf oil producers shut in output as storm looms
Offshore oil and gas operators in the Gulf of Mexico have begun evacuating platforms and rigs due to an area of tropical disturbance (Invest 93 L), with nearly 6% of regional oil capacity already shut in. The system is likely to strengthen into Tropical Storm Lee either late Thursday or early Friday, according to the US National Hurricane Center (NHC), packing winds of at least 40 miles/hour.
Tyco inks supply deal with Shell for butterfly valves
The flow control unit of Tyco International has been selected by Shell to provide butterfly valves for the company’s global operations. The five-year agreement covers more than 2,500 of Tyco's Vanessa, Winn, NeoTecha and Sapag brand highly engineered butterfly valves, for use in projects, maintenance repair operations and turnaround applications, the company said.
Siemens completes wind turbine project in Iowa
Siemens Energy, Mortenson Construction, and MidAmerican Energy Company have completed the expansion of MidAmerican Energy's wind project near Pomeroy, Iowa. Thirteen Siemens wind turbines were erected at the site, creating an additional 29.9 megawatts of generation capacity.
Fluor, NAEP awarded mine construction contract at Canada oil sands
North American Energy Partners (NAEP) has been awarded a $127 million heavy civil construction contract with Fluor Canada at Syncrude’s Base Mine. The new contract at Syncrude is the first of several large construction contracts to be let relating to the mine train relocations at Syncrude's Base and Aurora Mines.
