ACC: US specialty chemicals markets end fourth quarter on good note
WASHINGTON – The American Chemistry Council (ACC) reported that US specialty chemicals market volumes rose 0.3% in December. This follows an upwardly revised 0.5% gain in November. Volumes have generally been moving up since May.

Praxair signs hydrogen supply agreement with Marathon Petroleum
DANBURY, Conn. — Praxair, Inc. signed a long-term contract to supply hydrogen to Marathon Petroleum Corporation’s refinery in Garyville, Louisiana. The company will use the hydrogen to support an ultra-low-sulfur diesel project planned for 2018.
EIA: Hydrocarbon gas liquids a key factor in overall liquid fuel balance changes
Hydrocarbon gas liquids (HGL) — a group of products that includes ethane, propane, normal butane, isobutane, natural gasoline, and refinery olefins — have traditionally accounted for only minor changes in global liquid fuels production and consumption balances. However, HGL, and in particular ethane, is becoming a significant factor in expected year-over-year changes in global liquid fuels balances.

Magellan pipeline settles alleged Clean Water Act violations
WASHINGTON – The US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the Department of Justice today announced a settlement with Magellan Pipeline Company, L.P., for alleged violations of the Clean Water Act related to gasoline, diesel and jet fuel spills in Texas City, Texas; Nemaha, Neb. and El Dorado, Kan. Magellan has agreed to complete approximately $16 million of injunctive relief across its 11,000-mile pipeline system and pay a $2 million civil penalty.
CB&I awarded alkylation, hydrocracking contracts for China refinery
THE WOODLANDS, Texas -- CB&I announced it has been awarded two contracts for a grassroots refinery in China. The scope of work includes the license and engineering design of an alkylation unit and two Chevron Lummus Global (CLG) diesel hydrocracking units along with catalyst supply.
Pennsylvania town approves construction of Shell petrochem facility
(Reuters) -- The town council of Potter, Pennsylvania unanimously approved a conditional use permit late Wednesday allowing a unit of Royal Dutch Shell PLC to move forward with construction of a multibillion-dollar petrochemical complex near Pittsburgh.
