KazMunayGas and Uzbekneftegaz partner to build 50,000-tpy linear alkylbenzene plant

As reported on by several news agencies, KazMunayGas and Uzbekneftegaz have signed a framework agreement to jointly develop a petrochemical complex for producing linear alkylbenzene (LAB), a key ingredient used in synthetic detergents and household chemicals. The signing took place during President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev’s state visit to Uzbekistan and formalizes both companies’ intentions to study and design the project.

The agreement enables the launch of the design phase and necessary technical and economic assessments. The planned complex will have a production capacity of up to 50,000 tpy of LAB. A final investment decision will be made once design work is complete.

If implemented, the project is expected to meet domestic LAB demand in both Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan, reduce reliance on imported raw materials, and support the growth of the regional chemical and household products industries. This collaboration follows an earlier agreement between the two companies on the Zharkyn geological exploration project.
