Czech state lending 200,000 tons of oil to Orlen Unipetrol during TAL work

The Czech state will lend 200,000 metric tons of oil to refiner Orlen Unipetrol due to restrictions on the TAL pipeline during modernization work, the state reserves agency said on Wednesday.

The State Material Reserves Administration (SSHR) said work on modernizing the pier at the port in Trieste, Italy, where the pipeline begins, was limiting the movement of tankers and restricting supplies.

Work is due to last until mid-November, it said on X.

Orlen Unipetrol, owned by Poland's Orlen, is the country's main refiner.

The Czech Republic stopped requiring Russian oil supplies from the east in April after upgrades along TAL allowed it to become the sole route for crude deliveries.

TAL runs into Germany where it meets another pipeline heading to the Czech Republic.

The upgrades lifted the capacity available to the Czech Republic to 8 MMtpy, enough to meet the country's annual needs.
