Indonesia's biodiesel consumption reaches 7.42 MM kiloliters to date
Indonesia's biodiesel consumption this year up to July 16 reached 7.42 MM kiloliters, 47.5% of this year's allocation, energy ministry data presented in a biodiesel seminar showed on Thursday.
The world's top palm oil producer increased the mandatory proportion of biofuels in its diesel to 40% this year, up from 35%, a policy known as B40 that was designed to reduce the country's reliance on imported diesel.
Indonesia is studying how to raise biodiesel blending to 50% and expects the studies to be completed by the end of this year, senior energy ministry official Eniya Listiani Dewi said during the same event.
"We are preparing tests to move forward to B50 and it will be completed by year-end. Whether we will start B50 in 2026 has not been decided," Eniya said.
The government has to calculate the volumes of palm oil and the funding needed to raise the blending rate, Eniya added.
