Iran says EU ban on crude imports to hurt Europe

Iran doesn't expect Europe to follow through on its threat to ban imports of oil from the Islamic republic because it would hurt the euro zone's energy security, Iran's oil minister said Monday.
Speaking through a translator on the sidelines of the World Petroleum Congress in Doha, Rostam Ghasemi said Iran was such a significant exporter of oil that Europe would be unlikely impose the ban.
Sanctions imposed against Syria recently banned countries importing oil from the Middle Eastern country and an export ban on key technology for oil-and-gas industries operating in the country.
Asked whether the same could happen to Iran, the minister said: "The quantity of Syria exports is not comparable to Iranian exports."
